Gate Installation in Wichita, KS

New gates and gate replacement in cedar, vinyl, chain link and ornamental iron. Send a photo of the gate and get a written price before anyone comes out.

Ovora Outdoor installs cedar walk and drive gates, vinyl gates, chain link gates and ornamental iron gates across the Wichita metro. A gate that sags or drags is usually the post or the hinge side, not the whole fence. We can fix it or replace the gate without redoing the fence. Every new gate we build swings on a galvanized steel post set 30″ deep. On cedar, the steel hides behind the boards.

Building a new fence? We hang gates on every cedar privacy fence, vinyl fence and chain link or ornamental iron fence we build. Ovora Outdoor is Insured & Permitted.

Gate Replacement

Replace a gate without replacing the fence

The gate is the part of a fence you touch every day, so it is usually the first part to wear out. If the rest of the fence is standing straight, you do not need a new fence. You need a new gate. Send us a photo and we send you a written price first. Nothing is paid up front.

Built for the Wind

What makes a gate last in Kansas wind

A gate is a sail on two hinges. Four things decide whether it still swings clean years from now.

The hinge side

A steel post carries the gate

The hinge post holds the whole weight of the gate, and in Kansas wind it takes the push too. A wood post rots at the ground line and the gate drops with it. On every fence we build, the hinge side gets galvanized steel set 30″ deep. On cedar it is a Halco PostMaster post, hidden behind the boards.

The frame

A brace or a steel frame

A wood gate wants to fold into a parallelogram. A diagonal brace that runs from the bottom of the hinge side up to the top of the latch side keeps it square. Where a gate needs more than that, it gets a steel frame.

The hardware

Hinges and a latch picked for the gate

Hinges sized to the leaf, black on our wood gates. A latch that catches every time, not just on a calm day. A drive gate gets a drop rod to pin one leaf to the ground. A pool gate gets self-closing hinges and a self-latching latch.

The width

4 ft to walk, 10 to 12 ft to drive

A 4 ft walk gate is one leaf. A 10 to 12 ft drive gate is split into two leaves, so neither one hangs too much weight off a single post.

The same steel goes inside every post on every fence we build. See how it fits into fence installation in Wichita start to finish.

FAQ

Gate Installation Questions

Gate Questions

Can you replace just the gate?
Yes. If the fence is sound, the gate is its own job. Text us a photo of the gate and the posts beside it to (316) 640-1590 and we send a written price before anyone comes out. If the hinge post is the problem, we tell you that too, and we price the post with the gate.
Why does my gate drag?
Almost always the hinge side. Either the post is leaning, usually a wood post rotting at the ground line, or the gate itself has racked because it has no brace and the latch corner dropped. Loose hinge screws do it too. A photo of the gate closed and one of the hinge post tells us which one you have.
Do I need a permit for a gate?
Not in Wichita for a residential fence or gate 8 ft or under. The local building code (Ord. 50-833, Sec. 2.4.030) exempts fences not over 8 ft from a permit. Pool barriers and the suburbs that run their own permit desks are different, and our Wichita fence permit guide covers both. Ovora is insured, and we pull permits on every job that needs one.
How wide should a gate be for a mower or a trailer?
A 4 ft walk gate takes a push mower and a wheelbarrow. Measure the deck on a riding mower before you pick, because the clear opening is a little narrower than the gate once the hinges and latch are on. For a trailer, a boat or a truck, plan on a 10 to 12 ft double drive gate.
Can you add a gate to my existing fence?
Yes. We cut the opening, set steel gate posts at 30″, and hang the new gate in the run you already have. One honest note on cedar: new wood is tan to orange, and a fence that has seen a few Kansas summers is gray. The new gate will stand out until it weathers, or until it is stained.
Do you install automatic driveway gates?
No. We build and hang manual gates: walk gates and double drive gates in cedar, vinyl, chain link and ornamental iron. We do not install gate openers or automatic gate systems.
